Engineers Without Borders
Program: Humanitarian Design Summit Cambodia
Role: Facilitator, Mentor
The Humanitarian Design Summit program is an educational study tour designed to provide students with professional work experience while allowing them to develop a deeper understanding of the role Human-centred design and technology play in creating positive change within communities.
As a facilitator I co-led a group of 17 university students through the Human-centred design process, which was mapped out against our two weeks in both urban and community contexts. Starting with the discovery stage, then moving through to identifying and defining design opportunities in the rural communities in which we were staying. The students working in groups to generate ideas, prototype and then present back to the community. This process was done predominantly through practical and immersive experiences.
Role responsibilities included:
Teaching program content through a series of workshops and interactive sessions
Guiding students through the human-centred design process using tools like journey mapping and stakeholder analysis
Creating and developing new educational content
Managing day to day logistics
Looking after the students pastoral needs
